If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am all about using a Kindle Book as a marketing tool. This was the primary reason I published my first book for the Kindle. Originally I didn’t care about the number of sales. Whether I sold one a month or 10, I was just trying to get the word about my website out there.

It is safe to say that many of the readers that purchase your Kindle Book will have neither been to your site nor have ever heard of you. You can use your Kindle Book is another traffic source. Best of all, it is a traffic source that you can leverage that actually pays you for the traffic it sends to yours or others websites.

List Building

Since those readers that pay for your Kindle Book are actually Amazon’s customers, you aren’t privy to their contact information. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get at least a certain percentage of your readers to subscribe to your list.

The two easiest ways is to do this is by promoting your website in within your book. This can be as simple as a mentioning the domain name in the introduction of your book. Or you can include a hyperlink to your site. The thing about this is that this will only be clickable if the reader is viewing your book one of Amazon’s devices that can surf the internet.

Another caveat of this method is that you are really only passively building your list because you are simply sending people to your website and hoping they will decide to opt-in to your mailing list.

A more direct option would be to set up a dedicated squeeze page and promote the link to that page in your book by offering your readers a free guide or video course. I would recommend purchasing a separate domain for this page and at the very least have it redirect to the squeeze page. The domain name will be easier to remember than a long URL like www.yourwebsite.com/free-offer.

Product Promotion

Having your own product is a great way to monetize any website. You have all the control and get to keep the bulk of the money. It is also easy to promote from within your book.

You can promote your product the same way as your list. If your product isn’t on a separate domain, you would want to get another domain name and have it direct to your product’s sales page.

Affiliate Product Promotion

What is stopping you from promoting an affiliate product in your book? Absolutely nothing!

Just like promoting your list or product you can do it in two separate ways.

First you can include a direct link to within the paragraph where you mention the product that you are promoting. You can always get a little ninja and use a domain with a redirect to cloak the affiliate link and make it less obvious.

Some people don’t like directly promoting affiliate products within their books because they believe readers don’t like to be directly marketed to within the book for which they actually purchased. However, I believe there is a tasteful way to directly market in certain circumstances. If you decide to go the route of directing promoting an affiliate product, you will want to include an affiliate disclaimer stating that links inside your book could be affiliate links and you will receive compensation if the reader makes a purchase.

If you don’t want to directly promote an affiliate product in your book, you could direct your readers to your website. All you have to do is write a product review about the product and link to the product’s sale page from your post.

This can be a little tricky because you have to find a simple way to have them remember how to find your product review post if their Kindle device isn’t internet capable.
